June 2012 - The Silversea Group announced that it has purchased Canodros S.A., the premier Ecuadorian tourism company that operates in the Galapagos Islands, and their upmarket expedition ship, Galapagos Explorer II.
Silversea plans to add Galapagos Explorer II to its ultra-luxury fleet of six ships next year, after the all-suite, 100-guest vessel undergoes a major refurbishment in September 2013 and is given a new name, steps that will ensure consistency with the standards of the Silversea fleet.

Okt. 2012 Silver Galápagos is the new name for Silversea Cruises’ second expedition ship, currently sailing as Galápagos Explorer II. Announced at an event in New York on Monday, the new name signals the company's intent to maintain a consistent level of elegance throughout its fleet, and will take effect after the all-suite, 100-passenger vessel undergoes a major refurbishment in September 2013.

In a related move, the hull of the Galápagos Explorer II has already been painted the same dark blue as Silver Explorer, the company's other expedition ship.

Silver Galápagos will be positioned as the only luxury expedition ship offering socially and environmentally responsible ecotourism to the Galápagos archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Silversea has also revealed that it will start selling its 2013 Galápagos program in mid-November this year, offering two new seven-day itineraries that will begin operating in late September 2013. Both sail Saturday to Saturday, round-trip from Baltra Island.
