Carnival is working closely with the ABB Group, which is the manufacturer of the azipods, to facilitate the repair work, Following the completion of the July 1 sailing, the Carnival Vista will transit to a drydock facility to replace all four bearings on the two azipods.

July 2-2019 How The Carnival Vista Will Be Repaired

Carnival Cruise Line announced today that Boskalis will deploy a transport vessel as a first of its kind “floating drydock” facility to complete the repairs to Carnival Vista’s twoazipods, the ship’s main propulsion system. The procedure will entail loading the ship onto a semi-submersible heavy transport vessel, Boka Vanguard, and then docking the vessel at the Grand Bahama shipyard for the repair work, according to a press release.

This groundbreaking procedure made possible by Boskalis is a revolutionary way to ensure Carnival Vista’s repairs are completed in a safe, timely and efficient manner, so the ship can resume her popular seven-day schedule from Galveston later this month,” said Lars Ljoen, executive vice president of marine operations for Carnival Cruise Line.

Boka Vanguard is expected to arrive in the Bahamas  on Friday, July 5 to prepare for Carnival Vista’s arrival on July 12.

The loading, transport and repairs are expected to take approximately two weeks, allowing Carnival Vista to return to Galveston in time for her July 27 voyage and continue with year-round seven-day Caribbean itineraries.

Unique sighting with Carnival cruise ship on top of the BOKA Vanguard in Freeport, Bahamas
Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) successfully loaded cruise ship Carnival Vista on its semi-submersible heavy lift vessel BOKA VANGUARD and transported it to a shipyard facility in Freeport, Bahamas for a unique dry docking operation. Commencing last Saturday 13 July at sunrise the BOKA VANGUARD loaded and lifted cruise ship CARNIVAL VISTA in a successful operation a few miles off the coast of Freeport. The loading operation including the refloat took twelve hours. The BOKA VANGUARD then safely transported CARNIVAL VISTA to Grand Bahama Shipyard where repairs will take place whilst the cruise ship is resting on the BOKA VANGUARD. Upon completion of the repairs, Carnival Vista will be offloaded in time for its next scheduled cruise voyage from Galveston in Texas on 27 July 2019.
