The three ships will be built at the Norwegian Vard shipyard, and vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art technological features and environmental technology, including the highest Polar Class designation for passenger ships, PC6. This rating means they will be able to cruise not only in polar regions in the Arctic and Antarctica, but also in warm water destinations such as the Amazon. On-board 17 Zodiacs will allow landings in otherwise inaccessible expedition areas. The ships will also feature a water sports marina and three restaurants, a spa and fitness area.
The HANSEATIC nature, the first of the three, new Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ expedition ships, will set sail on its maiden cruise. This ship is aimed exclusively at the German-speaking market even as the HANSEATIC spirit in 2021. In October it will be followed by the launch of its international, bilingual sister ship, the HANSEATIC inspiration with all cruises conducted in both English and German. These small, first-class expedition ships featuring cutting-edge technology have the highest ice class for passenger ships (PC6). They can accommodate up to 230 guests, or 199 guests on Antarctic cruises. The almost identical ships raise the bar in the expedition cruise segment and feature numerous details and facilities that enhance the expedition experience even more. Retractable glass balconies on the Sun Deck give guests the feeling of hovering directly above the water and guests can stand on the foredeck of the ship to be closer to the action – even closer than the captain.
Experts will give daily presentations in the HanseAtrium, a multifunctional lounge with the latest technology and large LED screens on the walls and below the ceiling. On Deck 8, the heart of the Ocean Academy is the study wall, a 6-meter by 1.8-meter touchscreen wall. There passengers can conduct individual studies and research to deepen their knowledge of the natural wonders they encounter on shore excursions and Zodiac rides.
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced that it will only be burning low-sulfur marine gas oil (MGO) on the three ships Hanseatic Nature, Hanseatic Inspiration from July 2020, as well as the Hanseatic Spirit, set to join the fleet in 2021.
In particularly vulnerable areas such as the Arctic, Antarctica and Kamchatka, Hapag-Lloyd said in a prepared statement that it has been using MGO for a number of years, before the corresponding legal regulations have taken effect. The new expedition ships are also equipped with SCR catalysts, reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by almost 95 per cent, and shore power connectors.
According to Hapag-Lloyd, the routes are planned and managed on the basis of an eco-efficient average speed, reducing fuel consumption by one third. Moreover, the ships have seawater desalination systems to produce clean water and biological sewage treatment systems for wastewater. Environmentally-acceptable biological lubricants are used for the bow thrusters and stabilizers. The efficiency of the hull form was optimized using DNV GL’s unique formal optimization approach. The stern was optimized for passenger comfort by minimizing impact from slamming.
Six different types of suites and cabins
The HANSEATIC inspiration will be a smoke-free ship. This applies to all interior public areas as well as on deck, including the private balconies and verandas.
Oct.1-2019 - In the Berlitz Cruising & Cruise Ships 2020. sister ship HANSEATIC nature was named best boutique ship ( 50-250 passengers) for the first time and awarded a 5-star rating with 1,791 of a possible 2,000 points.
