The Sapphire and Diamond Princess are sisterships both built at Japan. In fact the ships are similar to the Grand-Class serie. The Japanese built ships have a slightly greater beam,some small alterations on hull design and no spoiler on aftship as the Grand-Class sisters. It are the first ships to be constructed by a Japanese Yard for P&O

The Diamond Princess was original named as Sapphire Princess however in december 2002 when the ship was under construction a fire broke out. The damage was serious and the hull was switched to the identical sister Sapphire Princess which was also under construction at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Launched as Diamond Princess and completed as Sapphire Princess.

March - 2018 The Sapphire Princess has embarked on her maiden Singapore to Southampton 38-night voyage following a two-week dry dock in Singapore. Homeporting in Southampton for the first time. Sapphire Princess will return to Singapore in November 2018 to continue her fifth Singapore homeporting season together with Diamond Princess.Club Class mini-suites were installed, featuring VIP amenities and exclusive dining.Facilities for children and teens ages 3 to 17 were reimagined into the Camp Discovery Youth & Teen Center.Located in the Princess Theater, a new LED wall will be used in production shows and various guest entertainer performances. The wall is comprised of 270 panels installed on a custom-engineered and shock-mounted frame to display still images, video and live feeds

Electric power is provided by a total of five alternators. These are two 11,440kVA and two 10,190kVA units, all diesel-driven, as well as a 31,250kVA alternator driven from the gas turbine. When in port, the system can be connected to the shore-based power facilities, allowing the alternators and boilers to be shut down and therefore decrease air pollution.
